Utility Advisor

Take action · Petitions to the Maryland Public Service Commission and Maryland's utilities

Three asks that would keep more Marylanders safe and solvent

Utility Advisor Inc processes energy assistance applications every day. We see the same gaps in the rules week after week: a medical form that arrives a day late, a heat wave with no season protection, a solar discount the people it was written for never reach. These three petitions ask the Maryland Public Service Commission and Maryland's electric and gas utilities to close them. Each takes under a minute to sign.

Shut-off protection

No shutoffs for households that depend on powered medical equipment

A standing medical-equipment flag on the account, 90 days of protection with a referral to energy assistance, and no disconnection of a flagged home without reaching a person inside it.

Summer heat

Give Maryland a summer protection season

A Jun 1 to Sep 30 protection period that mirrors the winter rule, a final 120-hour summer extreme weather period, and protections tied to the heat index rather than air temperature alone.

Lower bills

Community solar for every Maryland household

One utility bill, a one-page plain-language disclosure, a simple income-qualification path (OHEP, SNAP, Medicaid or WIC counts) and a protected right for renters to subscribe.
